HELEN HEAD
of South Burlington, Chittenden County, Democrat, was born in Griffin, Georgia, on May 12, 1953, and became a resident of South Burlington in 1992. She was educated at the University of New Hampshire (B.A., 1975) and the University of Vermont (Master of Public Administration, 1989). Helen is married to Thomas Mercurio and they have a son, Paul, and a daughter, Maria. Her career has focused on the development and administration of non-profit organizations, including Project Home (now HomeShare Vermont). Past community involvement has included board membership of organizations that address domestic violence, developmental disabilities, Alzheimer’s Disease, court diversion, and ecumenical action. Presently she serves as a volunteer with the following organizations: South Burlington schools, Hospice of the Champlain Valley, Dismas House, and South Burlington Community Library.
