MARGARET R. CHENEY of Norwich, Windsor County, Democrat, was born in Hanover, NH, to Vermont parents. Her father joined the Foreign Service, so she grew up in Malaysia, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, India, Peru, and Washington, DC. She received her B.A. from Harvard University. She was a newspaper reporter and editor of the Menlo-Atherton Recorder in Menlo Park, California, and was managing editor of The Washingtonian magazine in Washington, DC, from 1978 to 1989, when she moved to Norwich. She served as chair of the interstate Dresden School Board (Hanover/Norwich) and member of the Norwich School Board from 1998 to 2007. She teaches Spanish and environmental science at Sharon Academy in Sharon, VT, and is a member of the Vermont Climate Collaborative, the Maverick Lloyd Foundation’s Energy Action Project, the Northeast leadership council of the National Wildlife Federation, and the board of the Montshire Museum of Science. She has one daughter and two sons and is married to Vermont Congressman Peter Welch. Member of the House: 2007-2008, 2009-2010, as a member of the Natural Resources and Energy Committee. WINDSOR-ORANGE-2 JAMES W. (JIM) MASLAND JAMES B. (JIM) MASLAND of Thetford, Orange County, Democrat, was born in Hanover, New Hampshire, on December 7, 1948, and became a resident of present town in 1979. Occupation: Work-based learning consultant, builder. He was educated at Hanover Elementary, Hanover, New Hampshire; Williston Academy, Easthampton, Massachusetts; Stanford University, Palo Alto, California (B.A., 1972; M.S., 1972). He is married to the former Suzanne M. Sheldon, and they have five daughters and two sons.
